Found this on Flickr - Books photographed by a student who went to the University of Reading for type design! (Probably the same class as my type teacher Nicole Dotin!) I totally want to go there someday! If I win the lottery.
Sadly, Paul and I are in a different MATD class than Nicole. She was in the class of 06–07, and has already graduated. We are 07–08. But I have had the privilege of meeting Nicole. The typeface that she designed last year here in Reading is just dreamy.
I met Nicole (briefly) as well last month when I was in Amsterdam. Watch for Indic typefaces this year from MATD students: likely to be revealed later this summer.
Yeah!!! Elena! I saw her cool pdf specimen that had all of the "love, charlie" letters.
Oooooieee! I can't wait! Really, I should get my keister over there! Actually, do you think it's best to have lots of self-taught type design experience before enrolling?
While some students do have previous type design experience, quite a many do not. All you need—in my opinion—is a love for type, text, reading, and design and you'll be ready to do good work.
